HC Deb 17 July 1912 vol 41 c365
10. Mr. PETO

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether his attention has been drawn to the conclusions arrived at by the recent International Conference which specially considered the question of the use of wireless telegraphy for the prevention of disasters at sea; and whether, having regard to the conclusions arrived at by the recent International Conference, he will cause the Admiralty wireless stations to be of effective use in receiving wireless appeals for assistance sent out by merchant vessels in distress?

Dr. MACNAMARA

The Admiralty are conversant with the conclusions arrived at by the recent International Radio Conference, where they were fully represented. With regard to the suggestion that the Admiralty wireless stations should be so equipped as to enable them to take in messages from merchant ships in distress, I am afraid I can add nothing to the answer I gave to the hon. Gentleman on the 17th June.
