HC Deb 15 July 1912 vol 41 c13
7. Mr. C. BATHURST

asked whether prior to placing with a German firm a contract for the supply of plant and machinery for the Government wood distillation factory in the Forest of Dean, British manufacturers of such plant and machinery were given an opportunity of submitting a tender and securing the contract?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

British manufacturers were not invited to compete, because the special type of plant, which on inquiry appeared to be most suitable, is made in Germany only.
