HC Deb 15 July 1912 vol 41 cc13-4
17. MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

asked what allowance is given to members of the Metropolitan Police for extra duty, and after how much duty; and whether this sum is a fixed sum or whether it varies with the amount of extra time done?

Mr. McKENNA

The Police Orders provide that 1s. per day may be drawn when nine hours' continuous duty is performed. It is the practice, when the exigencies of work permit, to give "time off" for all periods beyond this nine hours.

MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

In view of the disagreeable nature of strike duty and the long continued duty caused by the strike, will the right hon. Gentleman consider the granting of special pay?

Mr. McKENNA

All the circumstances will be taken into account, I am quite sure, by the Commissioner of the Police.

Mr. W. THORNE

Including the breaking of strikers' heads?
