17. MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINEasked what allowance is given to members 14 of the Metropolitan Police for extra duty, and after how much duty; and whether this sum is a fixed sum or whether it varies with the amount of extra time done?
§ Mr. McKENNAThe Police Orders provide that 1s. per day may be drawn when nine hours' continuous duty is performed. It is the practice, when the exigencies of work permit, to give "time off" for all periods beyond this nine hours.
MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINEIn view of the disagreeable nature of strike duty and the long continued duty caused by the strike, will the right hon. Gentleman consider the granting of special pay?
§ Mr. McKENNAAll the circumstances will be taken into account, I am quite sure, by the Commissioner of the Police.
§ Mr. W. THORNEIncluding the breaking of strikers' heads?
