HC Deb 22 February 1912 vol 34 c728
Lord HENRY CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that at a meeting of the Hammersmith Board of Guardians, held on 17th January, a report from the out-relief committee was unanimously adopted stating that they had had under consideration the Board's reference of a letter received from the education department of the London County Council, stating that the council was anxious to lessen the amount of overlapping of Poor Law relief and meals to school children which now exists, and recommended that a reply be sent to the effect that when school children's parents were in receipt of outdoor relief that fact should, in general, be taken as an indication that such children should be benefited by school meals, and not as an indication that they are adequately fed, since, as a matter of fact, outdoor relief is seldom or never adequate; and whether he will take steps to secure that the children in the Hammersmith union whose parents are in receipt of outdoor relief shall be adequately fed?

Mr. BURNS

The resolution of the Hammersmith guardians had not been brought to my notice. I am communicating with that body.
