§ Mr. FERENSasked the Postmaster-General whether he can make any announcement in regard to a reduction in press telegraph rates to India and South Africa corresponding to those already granted to other parts of the Empire?
§ Mr. HERBERT SAMUELI am glad to be able to say that the Eastern Telegraph Company have arranged to reduce the rate for Press telegrams of a non-urgent character to Cape Town and Durban from 9d. to 3½d. a word, with an additional charge of a farthing a word for other places in South Africa. This reduction will come into force on 1st March. I hope that a reduction in the rate for Press telegrams to India will also shortly be effected.
§ Mr. HARRY LAWSONWill that rate be reciprocal? Will it be the same from South Africa?
§ Mr. HERBERT SAMUELPerhaps the hon. Member will give me notice. I think that that will be the case.
§ Earl WINTERTONDoes the arrangement extend to Rhodesia as well as to the Union?
§ Mr. HERBERT SAMUELI shall be glad to have notice.
