HC Deb 21 February 1912 vol 34 c599
Sir HILDRED CARLILE

asked the Colonial Secretary whether it has been brought to his notice that the Rhodesian Legislative Council has unanimously passed a resolution that the present system of trial by jury was unsuited to cases where Europeans were charged with serious crimes of violence against natives, or natives charged with similar crimes against Europeans, that some satisfactory system be substituted, and that the administration be requested to introduce legislation next Session giving effect to the Council's recommendation; and whether he proposes to take any action with regard to the matter?

Mr. HARCOURT

Yes, Sir. A resolution to this effect was passed in December. The Legislative Council is meeting again before long, and I do not propose to take any steps pending their action.
