HC Deb 21 February 1912 vol 34 c595
Lord C. BERESFORD

asked the First Lord of Admiralty, what time it will take to shift the fire-control positions in the latest ships of the "Dreadnought" type; how many ships are affected; whether it was ever pointed out to the Admiralty that the fire-control positions in these ships were untenable owing to the heat from their funnels; and whether he will state to the House the course, approximately, of shifting the fire-control positions in each ship?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The only completed ship of this type from which an official report as to the heat trouble caused to fire-control positions has been received is the "Hercules," and in this ship the necessary instruments have been moved to another position for trial by the ship's staff, little or no cost being involved.
