HC Deb 19 February 1912 vol 34 c278
Mr. GRANT

asked the Postmaster-General if the undertaking given last summer by the Government to establish a telephone system at reduced rates for farmers will be carried out on proper application at the present time?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Herbert Samuel)

It has become evident that subscribers to rural telephone party lines cannot be obtained even at the cheap rate offered in sufficient numbers to provide the required average of three subscribers to each mile of route. I am, therefore, modifying the scheme offered last year so as to meet the requirements of more scattered subscribers. The new conditions will be announced very shortly.
