HC Deb 19 February 1912 vol 34 c275
Mr. STANIER

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he can give the number of the animals slaughtered, the amount paid in compensation, and the total sum of money expended by the Board during 1911 in connection with the outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Runciman)

The number of animals slaughtered was 3,039, the amount paid in compensation £9,204, and the other expenses £2,300, making a total expenditure of £11,504.

Mr. STANIER

Is there to be a special Grant for these occasions?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I think it may be necessary for application to be made to the House for the passing of a Supplementary Estimate, but I cannot say definitely.

Mr. REMNANT

Has any fresh outbreak taken place in the last fortnight?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

No, Sir. We have no information to that effect.
