HC Deb 17 December 1912 vol 45 cc1305-6
87. Major ARCHER-SHEE

asked why the Commission which was appointed to select the sites for the Imperial wireless scheme have not been sent out, in view of the fact that the question of which system is to be adopted has no bearing upon the location of the sites and buildings for the staff?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

The whole question of the establishment of Imperial wireless stations being under the consideration of a Committee of this House, it is not thought proper to incur the expense involved by the dispatch of the Commission until the Report has been received.

Major ARCHER-SHEE

As the question of the selection and the purchase of sites, and the erection of buildings, is not included in the Marconi Agreement at all, why are the Government delaying the selection of those sites?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

It would be disrespectful to the Committee to undertake any steps to carry out the establishment of this system. The Committee might conceivably recommend the suspension of the whole scheme.
