HC Deb 17 December 1912 vol 45 cc1292-3
65. Mr. LANE-FOX

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether any, and, if so, which of the recommendations contained in the Report of the Departmental Committee on Foot-and-Mouth Disease, issued seven months ago, have been acted upon by the Board?

The PRESIDENT Of the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Runciman)

In accordance with the recommendation of the Committee to which the hon. Member refers, I have appointed a Special Commission to make further scientific investigations with regard to foot-and-mouth disease, and the work is now in progress in India. I have also appointed a Committee, which I hope will report shortly, to inquire into the requirements of the public services with regard to the employment of officers possessing veterinary qualifications and to consider whether any further measures can with advantage be adopted for the selection and training of students with a view to such employment. The Board are considering how far it is practicable to carry out the other recommendations of the Committee on Foot-and-Mouth Disease.
