HC Deb 11 December 1912 vol 45 c431
17. Major ARCHER-SHEE

asked what ship is to take the place of the "Pandora" on the Cape station pending the arrival of His Majesty's Ship "Pegasus" after completing her repairs at Devonport; and whether the present condition of His Majesty's Ship "Pandora's" boilers is sufficiently good to allow of her proceeding to sea without an escort?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The "Pegasus" is expected to be ready to leave England soon after the "Pandora" arrives home. There is no question of any third ship being sent to the Cape temporarily. The answer to the last part of the question is in the affirmative.

Major ARCHER-SHEE

Seeing that two of "Pandora's" sister ships have broken down at sea, luckily without any serious damage, would it not be safer to send some escort for her from the Cape?

Mr. CHURCHILL

That is a matter of which the responsible officers must judge, and they inform me she is in a condition to steam without requiring assistance.
