§ 66. Sir HENRY CRAIKasked the hon. Member for St. George's-in-the-East, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, if he will say what power the Government has in respect of the site now occupied by the Westminster Hospital; and the in the event of the removal of the hospital, that power will be exercised in order to secure that the site shall be used in a manner suitable to the dignity of the situation and so as to provide for the highest public advantage in the future?
§ Mr. WEDGWOOD BENN (Lord of the Treasury)The site cannot be used for any other purpose than that of a hospital without the consent of the Crown; and there are various restrictions as to buildings. The Government has the subject under careful consideration from the points of view suggested by the hon. Member.
