Gentleman whether he possesses any power to insist that, when operations are in progress necessitating the taking up of the roadway of a London street, these operations should be prosecuted vigorously and continuously until effected, in order that the inconvenience, danger, and disturbance caused may be as limited as possible?


No, Sir. I quite agree with my hon. Friend that it is very desirable that works of this kind should be carried through as expeditiously as possible, and I am glad to say that local authorities are becoming increasingly alive to the importance of this being done.
