§ 56. Mr. FREDERICK WHYTEasked the Secretary for Scotland whether he can give any information of the progress of the experiment in the Borstal system at Blairlodge by the Prison Commissioners?
The SECRETARY for SCOTLAND (Mr. McKinnon Wood)The Polmont Institution has now been open for a little over a year, and the first party of boys was transferred there on 18th December last. The total number of males sentenced under Part I. of the Prevention of Crime Act, 1908, has been up to date 101, all of whom are still under Borstal treatment. The next Report of the Prison Commissioners will contain information as to the progress of the experiment. I am informed that the conduct and progress of those in the institution have been good.
