HC Deb 02 April 1912 vol 36 c1037
Mr. WILLIAM YOUNG

asked the Secretary for Scotland, whether, in view of the fact that the Small Landholders (Scotland) Act will shortly come into operation, he will state the acreage of land in Scotland formerly cultivated but now lying under grass or out of cultivation, more especially in the county of Perth; and, if he is not in possession of the figures, will he take steps to obtain them?

MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

May I ask, as the question is not clear, will the right hon. Gentleman interpret the word "formerly" as from the date when Free Trade was first introduced?

The SECRETARY for SCOTLAND (Mr. McKinnon Wood)

I cannot put new interpretations on the question at the last moment. The latest statistics on the subject to which my hon. Friend refers will be found in the Agricultural Statistics for 1910 (Vol. XLV., Part I, Acreage and Live Stock Returns of Great Britain, Cd. 5585–1911), particularly in Tables 4 and 5 as to individual Counties, and Table 20 as to Scotland as a whole.
