HC Deb 02 April 1912 vol 36 cc1045-6
Mr. ROBERT HARCOURT

asked the Prime Minister whether he was aware that the question of Calendar Reform had been discussed at the meetings of the Chambers of Commerce by Lord Desborough and others, and that an International Conference had been proposed by the Swiss Government; and whether he would consider the possibility of appointing a Select Committee to examine and report on the three Bills now before the House?

Mr. McKENNA

My right hon. Friend has asked mo to answer this question. I have no information as to the discussions at the meetings of the Chambers of Commerce. As regards the International Conference proposed by the Swiss Government, His Majesty's Government in May last asked to be informed as to the attitude of the other Powers towards the proposal for a conference, but has not yet received this information. I do not think that the question could usefully be referred to a Select Committee at the present time.
