HC Deb 26 October 1911 vol 30 c286
Captain CLAY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that duly qualified veterinary officers, when engaged in making a list of horses and ponies suitable for the yeomanry, have been offered a sum of 3s. 6d. a day not exceeding ten hours, and 6s. a day when necessary absence exceeds ten hours; and whether he will consider the desirability of offering a more suitable salary for a veterinary officer when engaged on Government service?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Colonel Seely)

I will answer that. The rates of allowance quoted by the hon. and gallant Member do not apply to civil veterinary surgeons engaged on veterinary duties in connection with these services.

Captain CLAY

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether any sanction has been given by the War Office to that?

Colonel SEELY

I can explain the whole matter to the hon. and gallant Gentleman if he will allow me to do so.
