HC Deb 29 November 1911 vol 32 cc404-5
Sir HILDRED CARLILE

asked whether the right hon. Gentleman is now prepared to state that adequate compensation will be given to local authorities for the loss of rateable value arising out of the transfer to the Government of the undertakings of the National Telephone Company on 1st January, 1912?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

The Treasury have undertaken to make contribution in lieu of rates on transferred telephone plant, but the exact basis of the contribution is still under consideration.

Sir H. CARLILE

Can the right hon. Gentleman inform us whether this decision is likely to be arrived at soon?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

Yes, Sir; I do not see any reason to expect any great delay in arriving at a decision.
