HC Deb 28 November 1911 vol 32 c202
Lord HENRY CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

asked whether, in view of the facts that half the cost of the police is borne by the Home Office, and that the Board of Education have recently offered to pay half the cost of the local officers engaged in influencing the choice of employment of children leaving school, he will consider the advisability of his Department paying half the cost of the inspection by local authorities under the Employment of Children Act and the Shops Acts, with a view to obtaining a more uniformly effective protection, for children and young persons in their employment; and whether he will represent this point of view to the committee which is now considering the financial relations between the State and local authorities?

Mr. McKENNA

I am in communication with the committee on the subject of their inquiry generally, and the points referred to will be kept in view.
