HC Deb 28 November 1911 vol 32 cc185-6
Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India, whether, in order to prevent judicial proceedings from being prejudiced, the Secretary of State had issued instructions to the Indian Government that in future no honours or promotions were to be conferred upon police officers while they were under accusation of and awaiting trial for malpractices in the course of their official duties; and, if not, would he issue such instructions?

Mr. MONTAGU

As my hon. Friend is aware, all proposals for promotion or bestowal of honorary titles are to be held in abeyance in cases where enquiry or legal proceedings are pending; but I am not aware of any case in which police officers awaiting trial for malpractices have received honours or promotions.

Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

I will bring some cases to my hon. Friend's notice.
