HC Deb 28 November 1911 vol 32 cc190-1
Mr. FELL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can give the number of domestic servants who were, at the latest date available, in the infirmaries of workhouses in the London district; and if he has any estimate of the percentage this number bears to the total number of domestic servants in the same district?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I am informed that no figures are available in a statistical form except those that I gave last Tuesday. These were procured at my request by inquiries made at various infirmaries, chosen at random.

Mr. FELL

Could not the right hon. Gentleman give the percentage of cases that he quoted? At Hampstead he stated there were fifteen in the infirmary. Does that represent fifteen out of 10,000 or out of 20,000?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I did give the percentages. There were fifteen domestic servants in the infirmary out of a total of thirty-three female patients.

Mr. FELL

What is the average number of domestic servants in Hampstead?
