HC Deb 27 November 1911 vol 32 c29
Mr. PETO

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether, as the gratuities to vaccination officers which the Board have suggested to the boards of guardians as compensation for the loss of fees in consequence of the working of the Vaccination Act and Order of 1907 are only half the difference between the average annual amount of fees received before 1908 and those received since, and as the salary of the vaccination officers from fees is a diminishing quantity, while the cost of living has increased and is increasing, the Board will now intervene to settle a reasonable scale of fixed salary for these officers on which they can live, or a scale of fees not dependent only in the cases of successful vaccination reported, as these form a constantly and rapidly diminishing number of the total births?

The PRESIDENT of the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. Burns)

I have nothing to add to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member on the 16th instant.

Mr. PETO

Were the salaries of these officers paid in 1908 excessive and more than necessary for the efficient discharge of their duty?

Mr. BURNS

The hon. Member will have to put that question upon the Paper.
