HC Deb 27 November 1911 vol 32 c2
Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked whether English merchants are given equal trading rights with German merchants in the German Cameroons; and, if so, whether these equal rights will now be extended to the adjoining territory recently transferred by France to Germany.

Mr. ACLAND

In virtue of Notes exchanged in 1885 between the British and German Governments, British and German merchants receive equality of treatment in the Cameroons, of which the recently ceded territory is an extension. A great part of that territory is, moreover, in the Free Trade Zone.

Mr. WEDGWOOD

Does that mean that the Concessionaires in the French Congo no longer have exclusive rights?

Mr. ACLAND

That question is dealt with in a subsequent answer.
