Member for Southampton, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, if he is aware that it is now about three years since the erection of a new post office for Bolton was promised; will he explain why no steps are being taken to commence such erection; what is the reason of the delay; and if he can give a definite date as to when such work will be commenced?
§ The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Captain Norton)It was hoped to commence building operations for the new head post office at Bolton during the present financial year, and with this object arrangements were well advanced. Unfortunately, a difficulty has arisen as to providing accommodation for the telephone service, and it has become necessary to reconsider the plans. I cannot say definitely when the work will be commenced, but the hon. Member may rest assured that there will be no avoidable delay.
