HC Deb 21 November 1911 vol 31 cc1012-3
Mr. HAMERSLEY

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether, at present, any aid is given by the State, either directly or indirectly, for the establishment and maintenance of Village Credit Banks; and, if so, to what extent?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. Herbert Lewis)

The answer is in the negative, but my right hon. Friend is carefully considering by what means the establishment of Credit Banks may best be facilitated and encouraged.

Mr. C. BATHURST

Is it proposed to carry out this idea by means of the Bill before the House or some other measure?

Mr. LEWIS

That does not arise out of the question.
