Mr. TYSON WILSONasked the hon. Member for Southampton, as respresenting the First Commissioner of Works, whether the firm of Messrs. Santo, Spencer, and Company, contractors for the extension of the Law Courts, sub-let the stonework to the United Stone Company without the permission of the Office of Works; if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter; and whether the Office of Works will adopt the policy of only allowing a contractor to sub-let any portion of his contract if it can be reasonably shown that he is unable to execute the work himself?
TREASURER of the HOUSEHOLD (Mr. Dudley Ward)No permission to sublet the stonework at the Royal Courts of Justice Extension was granted by the Office of Works, nor, so far as the Department is aware, has it been sub-let. The practice of the Department in regard to sub-letting generally is in accordance with the terms of the House of Commons Resolution of 10th March, 1909.
