HC Deb 21 November 1911 vol 31 cc1028-9
Mr. VINCENT KENNEDY

asked whether the lands of the Lower Kilmore estate of J. de la Poer Beresford, county Cavan, have been acquired by the Estates Commissioners; have these lands been divided, and will the right hon. Gentleman say if county Cavan evicted tenants have been put on these lands, and what are the names and last place of residence of the new tenants; and how many county Cavan certified evicted tenants remain unrestored or unprovided with land?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

The Estates Commissioners' formal proposal for the purchase of these lands has been accepted by the owner, and the Commissioners hope to take over possession at an early date. The Commissioners, after careful consideration, and in the exercise of the discretion vested in them by Statute, have approved of a scheme for the distribution of the lands, but at the present stage of the proceedings it would be contrary to their practice to discuss the details of such schemes. The number of applications received from persons seeking reinstatement as county Cavan evicted tenants, or their representatives, who have been provisionally noted for consideration in the allotment of untenanted land is twenty-four.

Mr. KENNEDY

Will the hon. Gentleman see that none but Cavan evicted tenants are restored in Cavan until the twenty-four Cavan evicted tenants are dealt with?

Mr. HAYDEN

asked whether the Congested Districts Board has made any representation to the owner of the Potts estate, situate near Ballinasloe, county Roscommon, with the object of acquiring the same in order to relieve the congestion of the estate; and with what result?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

The Congested Districts Board asked the owner whether he was willing to negotiate for a sale of his property through them, and, if so, to lodge the necessary maps and documents, but no reply has been received.
