HC Deb 21 November 1911 vol 31 c1021
Mr. LANE-FOX

asked the Prime Minister whether it is proposed that, as a result of the Home Rule Bill, Ireland will be represented in the British House of Commons, but in smaller numbers than at present; and, if so, whether such a change in the numbers of this House will, according to all precedent, involve a Redistribution Bill followed by a dissolution of Parliament?

The PRIME MINISTER

I musk ask the hon. Member to wait for the production of the Government's legislative proposals.

Mr. LANE-FOX

As it is obvious that the scheme of Home Rule must mean a reduction of Irish Members, is it not contrary to all precedent that any alteration in the numbers of this House should not be followed by a redistribution of seats?

The PRIME MINISTER

That is a matter of opinion.
