HC Deb 20 November 1911 vol 31 cc817-8
Mr. PETO

asked the Prime Minister (1) whether he can now inform the House of the intentions of His Majesty's Government as to legislation or other action on the lines suggested in the memorial sent to him by the Employers' Parliamentary Council with respect to the law relating to picketing; and (2) whether he intends to introduce legislation to render a federation of trade unions organised for the purpose of paralysing the trade of the country by a general strike and stopping the food supplies of the nation an unlawful combination, in order to protect the rights and liberties of all law-abiding citizens?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have nothing to add at present to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member on 30th October.

Mr. PETO

Am I to infer that the Government have no intention of proceeding with the Trade Union (No. 2) Bill in the immediate future?

The PRIME MINISTER

I do not think it is safe to draw an inference of that kind. If the hon. Member likes to put down a question on the point I will answer it.
