HC Deb 20 November 1911 vol 31 cc810-1
Mr. STANIER

asked what is the amount of milk imported into this country from Europe during this year, and showing the amounts separate for each country?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Buxton)

My right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. The total imports of fresh milk from. Europe during the first ten months of this year amounted to 8,065 cwts., of which 5,464 cwts. were imported from France and 2,601 cwts. from the Netherlands. In addition 9,177 cwts. of cream were imported from Europe, of which 6,726 cwts. were imported from France, 1,618 cwts. from the Netherlands, 798 cwts. from Norway, and 35 cwts. from various other countries. These figures are, of course, exclusive of the imports of condensed milk, milk produce, and milk otherwise preserved.

Mr. STANIER

Is the milk examined to see that it does not contain any disease?

Mr. BUXTON

Will the hon. Member give me notice?
