HC Deb 16 November 1911 vol 31 c521
MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether the past contributions of soldiers who die or are killed on active service will be forfeited; and whether their widows will be entitled to maternity benefit with respect to a posthumous child?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Colonel Seely)

As regards the first part of the question, the object of the Bill is to provide for the living, and it is not in any sense a Life Insurance Bill. The contributions, therefore, will not be refunded. As regards the second part of the question, the reply is in the affirmative.
