HC Deb 16 November 1911 vol 31 cc510-1
Mr. C. BATHURST

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he will undertake, on the Third Reading of the Small Landholders (Scotland) Bill, to state the views of the Board in reference to the proposal to constitute a separate Board of Agriculture for Scotland, with separate administration of the Contagious Diseases of Animals Acts and the issue of orders and regulations thereunder?

Mr. HERBERT LEWIS

My right hon. Friend, who is fulfilling a public engagement in the country, has asked me to answer this question. The views of the Board are those which are held by the Government of the day. The Minister in charge of the Bill has expressed the views of the Government. My right hon. Friend has nothing to add to his statement.

Mr. C. BATHURST

Is the hon. Gentleman aware, if that is so, the policy of the Government is entirely contrary to the established practice of the Board of Agriculture ever since it was founded?

Mr. HERBERT LEWIS

My right hon. Friend states he has nothing to add to the statement of the Minister in charge of the Bill, and I certainly have nothing to add to his reply.

MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

May I ask whether the President of the Board of Agriculture will be present to-morrow?

Mr. HERBERT LEWIS

The Government I am sure will be adequately represented.
