HC Deb 16 November 1911 vol 31 c522
Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

asked the right hon. Gentleman whether the Treasury gave its assent in 1910 to additional grants being made to the Scottish universities conditional upon the establishment of an inclusive fee for the graduation course; and, if so, whether he will state the terms on which that condition was made?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

One of the conditions upon which the Treasury assented to the increased grants was "the institution of an inclusive or composite fee of uniform amount throughout the four universities for all the classes included in a particular course of study."

Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

In regard to the last part of the question, can the right hon. Gentleman give me the terms of the condition that was laid down?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

I have just read them.

Sir HENRY CRAIK

Was the condition laid down when the grant was first announced?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

I must have notice of that. I understand that the grant was first announced, but I am not certain.

Sir H. CRAIK

No.

Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether the condition was laid down before or after the grant was sanctioned by Parliament?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

I must have notice of that question.
