HC Deb 14 November 1911 vol 31 c197
Mr. DORIS

asked the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture whether his attention has been called to cases tried at Castlebar (county Mayo) quarter sessions on 3rd instant, in which a Liverpool firm sued a number of small landholders for the price of manure, and which cases were dismissed with costs on expert evidence that the manure supplied was useless as a fertiliser and was simply rubbish; and can he state what steps the Department are taking, or propose to take, to prevent the importation of such rubbish and the perpetration of such frauds upon the small farmers of the West of Ireland?

Mr. BIRRELL

I am informed that an appeal is pending in this matter. I cannot therefore enter into it.
