HC Deb 14 November 1911 vol 31 c201
Major WHITE

asked the Postmaster-General whether, dating from the 24th January, 1909, the arrangements for the outward primary sorting at the Southport post office, hitherto performed by sorting clerks, have been altered, five postmen being now employed; and whether it is his intention to permanently replace sorting clerks by postmen?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

Five postmen have been employed at Southport upon primary sorting duties for a few hours daily as stated. Since the date mentioned I have referred the general question of such duties to a Departmental Committee and am awaiting its Report.
