HC Deb 13 November 1911 vol 31 cc32-3
Mr. H. W. FORSTER

asked whether the right hon. Gentleman intends to exclude from compulsory insurance women outworkers whose husbands are insured persons; whether this exclusion will apply to rural districts only; and when his Amendments dealing with the matter will be on the Paper?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

My right hon. Friend has this matter under consideration and will see that any Amendments that may be necessary are tabled with as little delay as possible.

Mr. FORSTER

Has a definite promise been made that these people will be excluded?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

I am not prepared to say that.

Sir R. BAKER

Will those Amendments be placed on the Paper before the Somerset election or not?

Mr. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

Has any promise been published at South Somerset with regard to this matter, and is the right hon. Gentleman aware that a statement has been communicated to South Somerset in regard to this question?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

I am afraid I must ask the hon. Member to give me notice of that question.

Mr. PEEL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he intends to exclude from compulsory insurance women outworkers whose husbands are insured persons; and whether he will give unmarried women and widows who are outworkers and earning less than 9s. a week the option of being excluded from insurance?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

My right hon. Friend has this matter under his consideration.

Mr. PEEL

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether the Chancellor of the Exchequer is considering, as well as the case of the married women, the case of widows and unmarried women who are out-workers?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

He is considering the whole case of the out-workers.

Mr. PEEL

May I ask how soon we shall know the result of those considerations, and whether the result will be given first to the House and not to the electors of South Somerset?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

I understand the matter will be settled very soon.
