HC Deb 13 November 1911 vol 31 cc8-9
Sir HILDRED CARLILE

asked the President to the Board of Agriculture whether his attention had been drawn to the diminution in the number of young horses, under a year old, shown in the Abstract of Agricultural Returns for the year ending 5th June, 1911, constituting as it did a decrease of 4.2 per cent. upon the number recorded in the previous year; and whether he proposed to take any steps to increase the breeding of horses, and, if so, what steps?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I recognise the importance of this subject, and it is receiving very careful consideration in connection with the application of funds allocated to the Board by the Development Commissioners.

Sir HILDRED CARLILE

Can the right hon. Gentleman inform the House what the amount of the proposed grant will be?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I am afraid I cannot without notice.

Viscount HELMSLEY

I hope there is no suggestion in the right hon. Gentleman's answer that the grant given last year is not to be repeated?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

No.
