§ Mr. ADAMSONasked the Under-Secretary of State for War if the firm of John Jeffrey and Company, Kirkcaldy, has a contract to supply the War Office with tent duck cloth; whether he is aware that the tenters employed by the firm have been on strike for nine months in consequence of the firm's refusal to pay the current rate of wages; and whether he will have inquiry made into the matter, with a view to securing compliance with the Fair-Wages Clause?
§ Mr. TENNANTThis firm holds a War Office contract. It is understood that since the beginning of this year there has been a dispute as to the wages of tenters. The dispute has no special reference to Army contracts, and several firms and a relatively considerable number of tenters are involved in it. I am afraid therefore that little good would result from a War Office inquiry.
