HC Deb 30 May 1911 vol 26 c879
Mr. MITCHELL-THOMSON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the fact that the present Japanese Treaty determines on 17th July, he can state what is the present position of the negotiations regarding the question of perpetual leases; and what will be the position of the holders of these leases in the event of the negotiations not being concluded by that date?

Sir E. GREY

Negotiations are now proceeding between Great Britain and the Governments of some of the other Powers concerned on the one hand and the Japanese Government on the other with a view to a settlement of the question of perpetual leases. It is not anticipated that the position of the holders of these leases will in any way be affected in the event of the negotiations not being concluded when the present Treaty determines on 17th July.
