HC Deb 29 May 1911 vol 26 c711
Mr. HUGH EDWARDS

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has received the petition which the workmen of Ogmore Vale desire to be presented to his Majesty the King; and will he state what action he intends taking in the matter?

Mr. CHURCHILL

Yes, Sir; but as the petition seeks the intervention of his Majesty in an industrial dispute I am unable to advise his Majesty to comply with the prayer of the petition. I have, however, communicated it to the President of the Board of Trade.

Mr. HUGH EDWARDS

In view of the unrest in the district, may I ask the right hon. Gentleman if he will be prepared to receive a deputation of the men to discuss the matter?

Mr. CHURCHILL

It does not fall within my Department to deal with a question of conciliation in a trade dispute. It falls within the province of my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade.
