HC Deb 29 May 1911 vol 26 c714
Mr. BOWERMAN

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can state what was the product of the Club Tax in the last financial year?

Mr. SAMUEL ROBERTS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state the total yield of the Excise Duty on the purchases of intoxicating liquors in clubs under Section 48 of the Finance (1909–10) Act, 1910, in respect of each year for which it has been payable; and what is the estimate of the yield of this duty for the year 1911–12?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I will answer these questions together. The amount of the Excise Duty on purchases of intoxicating liquors by clubs collected in the financial year ended on the 31st March last was £94,641 0s. 8d., namely, £45,870 10s. 2d. in respect of purchases in the calendar year 1909 and £48,770 10s. 6d. in respect of purchases in the calendar year 1910. I have no reason to suppose that the yield in the current financial year will differ appreciably from that of the past two years.
