HC Deb 29 May 1911 vol 26 cc702-3
Mr. BYLES

asked the Prime Minister whether, having regard to the expenditure of the Board of Admiralty and the War Office upon experiments in air machines, it is contemplated by His Majesty's Government to use the air as well as the land and the sea for the devastating purposes of international war?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

In view of the developments which are taking place elsewhere it is impossible for His Majesty's Government to allow themselves to be left behind in this matter.

Mr. BYLES

asked the Prime Minister, whether he is aware of any international movement to forbid the use of aeroplanes or dirigible balloons as weapons of war; and, if not, will His Majesty's Government inquire into the disposition of other Powers in this matter with a view to avoid the perils and added terrors to humanity which this method of warfare would involve?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

The answer is in the negative.
