HC Deb 25 May 1911 vol 26 cc429-30
Mr. BOTTOMLEY

asked whether, in view of the fact that Wednesday, 31st May, is the anniversary of the Peace of Pretoria and therefore a day of national rejoicing, he will consider the expediency of adjourning the House on Tuesday, 30th May, instead of Friday, 2nd June, in order that Members may have an opportunity of celebrating so important an event in a manner more consistent, with national traditions than would be compatible with their attendance at this House?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I am afraid that is not a practical suggestion.

Mr. BOTTOMLEY

Perhaps the right hon. Gentleman would afford Members of the House of Commons the same facilities for celebrating this great historical event as that which it is understood the Dominion Premiers are going to avail themselves of?

Mr. MacVEAGH

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that Wednesday next, in addition to being Pretoria Day, is also the birthday of the hon. Member for South Hackney?

Mr. BOTTOMLEY

The hon. Member is confusing me with the Poet Laureate.
