HC Deb 23 May 1911 vol 26 cc125-6
Mr. ROBERTSON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, whether any and, if so, how many persons have been actually deported in Egypt under Article 21 of the Deportation Law which gives power to a court of assize to deport an accused person against whom it has not found evidence for conviction; and whether he will recommend that the Law should at this point he amended by relegating to the special local commission of investigation all cases in which courts of assize recommend deportation after failing to convict?

Sir E. GREY

I have no information to show whether any of the 275 persons, who are stated on page 34 of Sir Eldon Gorst's last Report to have proceeded to the Kharga Oasis, were dealt with under Article 21 of the Police Supervision Law, but I will make enquiries. I will consult H.M. Acting Agent and Consul-General in Egypt with regard to the suggestion in the second paragraph of the question.
