HC Deb 23 May 1911 vol 26 c141
Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked the hon. Member for the Doncaster Division, as representing the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, if he will state what was the total amount of agricultural land belonging to the Commission; and what portion of it was let in holdings of 50 acres or less in the years 1904, 1907, and 1910, respectively, with the percentage in each case?

Mr. CHARLES NICHOLSON

The area of the Commissioners' agricultural land in possession in the years 1904, 1907, and 1910, respectively, was 252,000 acres, 254,500 acres, and 253,700 acres. The area let in holdings of 50 acres and under in the same years (including lettings to councils and associations for small holdings and allotments) was 24,950 acres, 25,450 acres, and 27,650 acres respectively, the corresponding percentages being 9.9 per cent. in 1904, 10 per cent. in 1907, and 10.9 per cent. in the year 1910. Since 1907, about 900 acres also have been sold by the Commissioners to county councils for small holdings.
