HC Deb 15 May 1911 vol 25 c1623
Mr. PICKERSGILL

asked the President of the Local Government Board, whether his attention has been called to the fact that on the 6th instant at Southampton the chief attendant at the Southampton Workhouse Boys' Home was convicted of an act of cruelty towards a little boy, aged five, whose ears were torn away from the skull for about half-an-inch; and whether this man is still employed at the home?

Mr. BURNS

I have made inquiry into this case, and am informed that the attendant has been dismissed by the guardians after being fined £5 and costs by the magistrates. I am glad to learn that the injuries to the child were somewhat superficial and healed in three days.
