HC Deb 15 May 1911 vol 25 cc1627-8
Mr. MARTIN

asked if taxi-cabs are prohibited from travelling on certain roads in Hyde Park on which private motor cars are allowed; and, if so, why is this discrimination enforced?

Mr. DUDLEY WARD

The answer to the first question is in the affirmative. The First Commissioner does not think that extended facilities for the admittance of cabs to Hyde Park would conduce to the amenities of the Park, or to the general comfort, convenience, and enjoyment of the people.

Mr. MARTIN

Does not the hon. Gentleman think that private motor-cars of high horse-power are more apt to be detrimental to the amenities of the parks than taxi-cabs which are open to the general public.

Mr. DUDLEY WARD

No. Sir.
