HC Deb 10 May 1911 vol 25 cc1214-5
Mr. MURRAY MACDONALD

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his promise to deal with the superannuation of teachers can be so expedited as to permit the Government to give a grant towards the expenditure involved in the scheme of superannuation for teachers in Scotland which has been prepared by the Scottish Education Department and which is about to be laid before Parliament?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

Section 14, Subsection 6, of the Education Scotland Act, 1908, provides for a grant from the Treasury towards the expense of the new superannuation scheme equivalent to the amount of the Exchequer liability under the scheme at present in force. I am not yet in a position to say whether or how the amount of this grant may be affected by any proposals I may have to make in regard to the superannuation of teachers generally.

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

If any new benefits are to be given, will he see that English teachers shall share them?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

My intention at the present moment is to apply it to teachers of the United Kingdom.
