HC Deb 09 May 1911 vol 25 cc1031-2
Mr. WILLIAM THORNE

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he has received a number of letters from various labour associations protesting against the overcrowding upon the Metropolitan District Railway; and if he proposes to take action with regard to this matter?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Buxton)

I have received resolutions on the subject from certain East. End branches of the National Union of Clerks, and in one of these reference is made to the overcrowding between the City and Upton Park. The London, Tilbury, and Southend Railway Company, as well as the Metropolitan District Railway Company, are concerned in the train service between these places, and I am sending to my hon. Friend a copy of a letter which I have received from the former company.
